What is RF microneedling?

RF microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that combines two technologies: microneedling and radiofrequency energy.

Fine needles create controlled microchannels in the skin. Radiofrequency energy is then delivered through the needles into selected depths of the tissue.

The treatment may be considered for concerns involving skin texture, certain acne scars, fine lines and skin firmness.

The settings and depth used should be selected according to the treatment area and individual skin assessment.

Who may consider RF microneedling?

RF microneedling may be discussed with suitable patients concerned about:

  • Uneven or rough skin texture
  • Certain types of acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Changes in skin firmness
  • Overall skin quality

The cause and severity of the concern matter.

For example, acne scars can vary considerably in type and depth. Some may respond to microneedling-based treatments, while others may require a different or combined approach.

An assessment helps determine what makes sense for your skin.

How does RF microneedling work?

1. Skin Assessment

Your provider examines your skin and discusses your main concerns, medical history, previous procedures and current skin-care routine.

2. Treatment Planning

The treatment area, needle depth and radiofrequency settings are selected according to the concern being addressed.

3. Skin Preparation

The area is cleansed and prepared. Measures to improve comfort may be used where appropriate.

4. Microneedling & RF Delivery

Fine needles enter the skin at controlled depths.

Radiofrequency energy is delivered through the needles into targeted tissue, creating controlled thermal zones beneath the skin.

5. Recovery & Aftercare

Your skin is monitored after treatment, and you will receive instructions for the recovery period.

What may RF microneedling help with?

The response to treatment differs between patients, but RF microneedling may be considered for:

Skin Texture

The treatment may support gradual improvement in uneven or rough-looking skin.

Certain Acne Scars

RF microneedling may be used for selected types of acne scarring after the scars have been properly assessed.

Skin Firmness

The combination of controlled needling and radiofrequency energy may help improve the appearance of skin firmness over time.

Fine Lines

It may be considered when fine lines and changes in overall skin quality are part of the patient’s concern.

Enlarged-Looking Pores

Some patients may notice an improvement in the appearance of pores as skin texture changes following treatment.

Individual outcomes and the number of sessions required vary.

RF microneedling vs Dermapen

What’s the Difference?

Both treatments use microneedles, but they are not the same procedure.

Dermapen microneedling creates controlled microchannels in the skin using fine needles.

RF microneedling combines those controlled needle penetrations with radiofrequency energy delivered at targeted depths.

This does not automatically make one treatment “better” than the other.

The more appropriate option depends on your skin, the concern being treated, its severity and the treatment goal.

Your provider can explain the difference after examining your skin.

Recovery & aftercare

Following RF microneedling, the treated area may temporarily appear red or feel warm and sensitive.

You may also experience:

  • Mild swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Temporary dryness
  • Small treatment marks
  • Flaking as the skin settles

The intensity and duration of these effects can vary depending on treatment settings and individual response.

Your provider will explain appropriate aftercare, including sun protection and when to restart active skin-care products.

RF microneedling at Dr Al Naeem Medical Center

Treatment Settings Matter

RF microneedling is not a one-setting treatment.

Different concerns and treatment areas may require different depths and energy settings. That is why assessment and treatment planning are an important part of the procedure.

At Dr Al Naeem Medical Center, the aim is to select the treatment approach according to your skin rather than following the same protocol for every patient.
